Howdy! This Fall semester I have the opportunity to intern with the Georgia State Games in Kennesaw, Georgia. I won't be focusing this blog on my job, but more about the adventures I get to have in Georgia! I'll be blogging about the places I'll get to visit, the food I'll get to try, and the things I'll get to do! Let's see what Georgia has to offer!!

Best. BBQ. Ever.
Dave Poe's BBQ in Marietta, Georgia has some of the best BBQ I have ever tasted. I had the brisket sandwich with there famous macaroni and cheese(which is like heaven in your mouth!). They give you plenty of meat, and the sides are not small to say the least.

9/13: Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial and Historical Landmark
After visiting a more upbeat little 5 points, we made the trip to "sweet" Auburn Street, where the MLK Jr. national site is! We had the privilege to see Ebenezer Baptist Church where he was baptized, where he was the Jr. Pastor, and where his memorial service was held when he was assassinated.
We also had he chance to hear the "I have a dream" speech by a fella that works at the landmark and travels the world reenacting MLK's speeches. It was like I was there listening to the real speech. He was phenomenal and if you don't believe me, come to Atlanta and hear for yourself! The accent, the shakiness in his voice, and way the words rolled off his tongue-it was like MLK was standing right in front of us!
Other historical landmarks on Auburn:
Original birthplace of Martin Luther King Jr.
Original homes from the days he walked the streets
The new church where they now have sermons (across from Ebenezer)
And most importantly, MLK and his late wife's tomb.
Come to ATL and visit this. It's a must.
9/13: Little 5 Points
Little 5 points was an unusual place to say the least. Lots of street art, smoke shops, consignment shops, and bars. The atmosphere was different, but at the same time--it was a lot of fun!
For lunch, Shilo and I ate at The Vortex, which was delicious! Their holy guacamole burger with tots hit the spot, and their brewed Laughing Skull Amber Ale was a very nice addition to the meal. The Vortex is a kick ass, go with the flow type of atmosphere!!

13 Years Later.
I posted a status earlier on Facebook about how everyone still remembers how they felt, how old they were, and where they were at the time the Twin Towers were hit. I don't want to repeat myself and talk about how devastating this terrorist attack truly was because we are still reminded of the tragedy 13 years later.
I remember being in intermediate school living my life like normal when over the PA System came an announcement that we would never forget, and you immediately wanted to ask questions. But the look on your teachers faces instantly told you that this was awful news. I remember watching the second plane fly towards the second tower and in a blink of an eye, tragedy struck. Parents were checking their kids out of school, my class was nearly empty and teachers were in shock for most of the day. The live footage stirred up plenty of questions, especially for 11 year old 5th graders, because we had no idea what was happening and why it was happening.
My roommate shared with me a post she saw on Instagram, and I think it is perfect:
- "At this moment 13 years ago, millions of Americans went to bed quietly, with no thought that the next morning their world would change forever. That night hundreds packed flight bags they would never live to open. Thousands slept with loved ones for the last time. One never knows what a new day has in store. Let us live each day to the fullest, and never miss a chance to let those dearest to us know our love for them. So tonight if you have someone in your life that you love, tell them..."-Poppy And Dot (posted on 9/10)
This tragedy made a nation become a neighborhood, and united a country as one.

For all of those who have fought, and for those that are still fighting the war on terrorism, thank you for protecting our freedom, and standing up for your country. We are greatly appreciative and honored to have such brave individuals serving our country.
Having my 19 year old brother in the US Marines, is not an easy thing to live with, especially with all of the war and terrorism still happening oversees. I feel like I should still be protecting him, and watching over him like a big sister should. But now, he is a young man, and an US Marine. He isn't in combat, or oversees but that doesn't matter to my family and I. He is our hero, and he is much more braver than I ever thought. You never think about how much you truly care for someone till you see them sacrifice so much like he has. Yes, he is still my younger brother, and thinks he knows everything about everything, but words can't begin to describe how proud I am. He has shown me how to be brave, how to have courage, and how to be grateful for this country we all live in. Thank you Zack for being a Marine, and being brave, because if I had to walk a mile in your shoes, I wouldn't succeed. Love you little brother, and I may not be a Marine, but I will always be your protector-that's my duty to you.
God Bless The USA, and those serving and protecting our freedom.

This isn't Greece!
We took Athens by storm! Looking forward to this trip, we drove a hour and a half to go shop, see UGA, hang out with Eduardo, and maybe another type of adrenaline rush took place too ;)
First off, we finally got to go shopping at the Red Dress Boutique, which was all it cracked out to be--amazing! Then we walked the streets of downtown Athens-and can I say after visiting this college town--I really miss Aggieland!! Anyways, then Shilo and I walked around UGA's campus and it was beautiful! So many trees, gorgeous buildings, and of course I had to learn about some of the buildings and traditions on campus(go figure)!
Then we met up with Eduardo, who took us to lunch in downtown Athens! He showed us around a little bit more and showed us Stanford Stadium where those dawgs play ball!!
Next in line, was to head to the tattoo parlor and get my 3rd tattoo at the Midnight Iguana! I was so blessed to have Shilo and Eduardo there for moral support!
The Perfect Date.
On Friday, Shilo and I decided to have the perfect date--roommate style!
We drove toward Atlanta to stop at the Atlanta's Food Truck Park & Market! Shilo had a burger, but with baked beans, coleslaw, lettuce, tomato, cheese, meat, and two buns along with a side of Cajun fries(which were to die for!) I had a Taco Dog--a bratwurst wiener wrapped in a tortilla with pico de gallo, guacamole, cheese, lettuce, and sour cream. It was scrumptious. Then to finish our meal we of course had a King of Pops!!
Then that night we drove into Little 5 Points and went to Dad's Garage to watch an Improv Comedy Show, which was hilarious. It was a great evening and a perfect date, that had a girls stamp of approval for any fellas out there!!! ;)
Labor Day Weekend: Marietta Art Festival
Shilo and I spent Labor Day in Marietta enjoying their town square and art festival. It was a splendid little square with booths set up with a variety of art pieces.
After buying some art, fresh squeezed lemonade, and a cupcake from the winners of Cupcake Wars a few years back...we headed to Marietta Diner! This place was packed full of people, and the food was amazing! The interior and design inside felt comforting and just like a diner should!
To keep the red, white, and blue vibe alive, we drove to the national cemetery in Marietta! Now this--YOU HAVE TO SEE! I got chills when we pulled up and saw all the matching white headstones perfectly aligned among the acres of cemetery. It was absolutely breath taking and made me so proud to be American.
Labor Day Weekend: Marietta Confederate Cemetery
Talk about history! This place was incredible. Seeing graves from the late 1800's and so on, and all of the confederate tombstones with flags standing tall beside them. Coming from the south, you learn all about the union and the good ol' confederate rival. Each section was grouped by State--so to name a few: Texas, Georgia, North & South Carolina... One interesting thing I saw was the Slave Plot. Only 19 of slaves are buried here next to tons of white men & a few women.
Labor Day Weekend: Six Flags Over Georgia
We spent the day riding thrilling roller coasters and channeling our inner adrenaline junkies. It was loads of fun, and so glad we both liked the same type and style of rides--that made things 100x easier!
